Job title: EHS Specialist
Job type: Contract ( 6 Months )
Location: Carlsbad, CA
Duties:
• Develop, implement and deliver effective training programs
• Provide technical and regulatory EHS guidance for chemical handling, biosafety, hazardous and biohazardous wastecontractor safety, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, industrial hygiene, biosafety, radiation safety, lasers and facilities maintenance programs
• Coordinate and lead safety committees.Assist with Job Hazard Analysis assessments. Execute established implementation plan. Monitor closure of action items.
• Assist with the site Emergency Plan and Emergency Response Team. Provide or make arrangements for First Aid, CPR/AED and HAZWOPER training
• Provide effective Incident Response and follow up and seek assistance from EHS Manager as needed
• Conduct Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis. Ensure injury and illness cases are effectively managed to closure.
• Track and analyze site monthly Environmental Health and Safety metrics
• Assist in the execution of the comprehensive EHS inspection program and track corrective action items to completion
Skills: Requires a minimum of M.S. and 3-5 years of experience or B.S. and 5-7 years of experience. in an environmental, health, safety, and related discipline and technical/practical knowledge of EHS+S regulations, codes, and guidelines. CIH/CSP certification and experience in OSHA’s VPP program is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards. Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, including the ability to interact with outside regulatory agencies. Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and slide presentations required. Technical and practical knowledge of biotechnology, research and development and/or manufacturing is highly recommended, or a willingness to quickly become proficient is required.
Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, environmental or industrial hygiene or comparable field; or the equivalent knowledge and experience. Must have working knowledge of federal and local EHS regulations, including OSHA and EPA.
